Three sports. Three wild plays. One giant reminder: anything can happen.
Let’s dive in!
1️⃣ Premier League Power Clash ⚽
We’ve been talking English Premier League all weekend.
Yesterday’s highlight? Arsenal vs. Manchester United. Two of the most popular clubs in the world. Everyone expected fireworks.
It delivered. 🔥
🎥 Hit play to see what happened! (Arsenal is in white.)
Arsenal jumped ahead early with a clever header from Riccardo Calafiori on a corner kick.
Manchester United fought hard and created plenty of chances… but couldn’t score, and lost 1–0.
🧠 That goal came off a set piece. What’s that? It’s when play starts again after the ball goes out of bounds or there’s a foul. Like a corner kick, free kick, or penalty. Think of it as hitting reset… with a big scoring chance built in.
2️⃣ A Chip to Remember ⛳
A week ago we learned the golf season has playoffs.
This weekend, the top 50 golfers played in the second of three tournaments called the BMW Championship.
By yesterday’s final round, Robert MacIntyre held the lead… until Scottie Scheffler turned things upside down.
🎥 Watch this shot that sealed the win!
Yep, that was an 82-foot chip-in from the rough on the 17th hole.
Scheffler finished at 15-under par.
But here’s the twist: even with the loss, MacIntyre stayed in the top 30, earning a spot in next week’s Tour Championship in Atlanta.
He’ll be there alongside stars like Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.
And now the history watch begins: if Scheffler wins again, he’ll become the first golfer ever to win back-to-back titles since the playoffs started in 2007.
3️⃣ A Giant Catch 💫
NFL preseason is underway, so it’s fair if you thought this was about the New York Giants.
Nope… this is baseball. And it’s all about San Francisco Giants center fielder Jung Hoo Lee.
🎥 Ready to see something you’ve never seen before?
Here’s the play: In the top of the 4th inning, a Tampa Bay Rays hitter ripped a line drive into the outfield. Lee chased it down, slid across the grass… and then things got wild.
The ball popped out of his glove, bounced off his thigh, slid down his calf. Then Lee somehow trapped it between his knees.
Did you hear the announcer call it the catch of the decade?
🧠 He also said the ball was hit into Triples Alley. That’s the nickname for deep right-center field in San Francisco’s park. It’s so big that balls often turn into triples… unless Jung Hoo Lee is out there.
Okay, okay. We didn’t hit head, shoulders, knees, and toes today.
But we did start with a header and finish with a knee-catch… so close enough. 😄
See you tomorrow, Smallballers!
