Itās Friday, Smallballers, and today weāre talking about⦠the equinox!
Wait, what?
An equinox happens when the Sun is directly above the equator. So day and night are almost exactly the same length.
There are only two per year. The equinox in March is the official start of Spring (in North America). And the one in September is the start of Fall.
But thereās another type of equinox: a sports equinox!
Thatās what fans call it when the four major sports leagues in North America, MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL, all have games on the same day.
The only sports equinox in 2025 is on Monday!
Should we get ready to celebrate with highlights from this week and a preview of this weekendās biggest games?
Letās start withā¦
NBA Week 1 š
Best game: In the first game of the season, the Thunder got their championship rings and beat the Rockets in double overtime, 125ā124.
Then, last night, they beat the Pacers in double overtime, 141ā135.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SGA) scored a career-high 55 points. And OKC became the first team in NBA history to start a season with back-to-back double-overtime games.
Talk about a historic start!
And there were other great games in the last few days:
The Warriors beat the Lakers, 119ā109, even though Luka (43 points) outscored Jimmy Butler (31) and Steph (23).
San Antonio beat Dallas, 125ā92, behind Victor Wembanyamaās 40 points and 15 rebounds.
Philadelphia beat Boston, 117ā116, as 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombeās 34 points were the most by any NBA player in their debut (first game) since 1959.
But last night, the Nuggets traveled to Golden State to play the Warriors.

Wait⦠were you saying Curry would make a billion threes?
Or that heād make one from a billion feet?
Speaking of long distanceā¦
Biggest news: The Sun is 490 billion feet from Earth. The equinox is about the position of the Sun. The Sun is a star.
And these are the NBA stars off to the hottest start so far. (Sorry, couldnāt help myself.)
Wildest play: They say Victor Wembanyama is an alien⦠why?

The NBA seasonās just beginning. But weāre almost to the end of theā¦
MLB Playoffs ā¾ļø
Ready for World Series Game 1 tonight?
Here are a few facts to get you excited:
Experts say the Dodgers have about a 67% chance of beating the Blue Jays.
If the Dodgers win, it will be their ninth championship in team history and their second in a row. (They beat the Yankees 4ā1 last year.)
If the Blue Jays win, it will be their third championship and first since 1993. (They won back-to-back titles in 1992 and 1993.)
Now, want to play a little trivia?
There are three players on the Blue Jays who have something special in common: Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, and Daulton Varsho.
You might say⦠baseball is in their blood.
