The Son Is Also a Star 👦☀️⭐
It’s Friday, Smallballers, and today we’re talking about… the equinox!
Wait, what?
An equinox happens when the Sun is directly above the equator. So day and night are almost exactly the same length.
There are only two per year. The equinox in March is the official start of Spring (in North America). And the one in September is the start of Fall.
But there’s another type of equinox: a sports equinox!
That’s what fans call it when the four major sports leagues in North America, MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL, all have games on the same day.
The only sports equinox in 2025 is on Monday!
Should we get ready to celebrate with highlights from this week and a preview of this weekend’s biggest games?
Let’s start with…
NBA Week 1 🏀
Best game: In the first game of the season, the Thunder got their championship rings and beat the Rockets in double overtime, 125–124.
Then, last night, they beat the Pacers in double overtime, 141–135.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SGA) scored a career-high 55 points. And OKC became the first team in NBA history to start a season with back-to-back double-overtime games.
Talk about a historic start!
And there were other great games in the last few days:
The Warriors beat the Lakers, 119–109, even though Luka (43 points) outscored Jimmy Butler (31) and Steph (23).
San Antonio beat Dallas, 125–92, behind Victor Wembanyama’s 40 points and 15 rebounds.
Philadelphia beat Boston, 117–116, as 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe’s 34 points were the most by any NBA player in their debut (first game) since 1959.
But last night, the Nuggets traveled to Golden State to play the Warriors.
🎥 Hit play on these highlights!
Wait… were you saying Curry would make a billion threes?
Or that he’d make one from a billion feet?
Speaking of long distance…
Biggest news: The Sun is 490 billion feet from Earth. The equinox is about the position of the Sun. The Sun is a star.
And these are the NBA stars off to the hottest start so far. (Sorry, couldn’t help myself.)
Wildest play: They say Victor Wembanyama is an alien… why?
🎥 Watch for yourself!
The NBA season’s just beginning. But we’re almost to the end of the…
MLB Playoffs ⚾️
Ready for World Series Game 1 tonight?
Here are a few facts to get you excited:
Experts say the Dodgers have about a 67% chance of beating the Blue Jays.
If the Dodgers win, it will be their ninth championship in team history and their second in a row. (They beat the Yankees 4–1 last year.)
If the Blue Jays win, it will be their third championship and first since 1993. (They won back-to-back titles in 1992 and 1993.)
Now, want to play a little trivia?
There are three players on the Blue Jays who have something special in common: Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, and Daulton Varsho.
You might say… baseball is in their blood.

College Football Week 9 🎓🏈
We’re down to six undefeated teams out of 136. That includes:
#1 Ohio State, and they’re off this week.
#2 Indiana, and they play UCLA, who is 3–4 but has won three in a row.
#3 Texas A&M, and they play #20 LSU.
That last game is one of three this week between ranked teams. The other two are: #8 Ole Miss at #13 Oklahoma, and #10 Vanderbilt hosting #15 Missouri.
Three games. Six teams. One conference.
Remember the spot-the-difference game we’ve been playing…
How about we play ‘How many differences do you think you’ll spot next week?’
In other words…
🎥 Now, want to watch the best plays from last week to get you ready?
We can’t wait to see what happens (as long as Texas doesn’t move down).
Now, let’s finish with…
NFL Week 8 👔🏈
Thursday Night Football last night? The 3–3 Minnesota Vikings vs. the 4–3 Los Angeles Chargers.
