Happy Sunday! That means it’s time to sharpen your soccer skills, solve a math stumper, and watch some super silliness.
Before we dive in… yesterday morning we read all about the English Premier League, or EPL. It was a busy one in England, with 10 clubs in action.
The highlight? Probably Manchester City. They crushed Wolves 4–0. (Wolves is short for Wolverhampton Wanderers).
The closest games? Two finished as draws.
Aston Villa and Newcastle tied 0–0.
Brighton tied Fulham 1–1 thanks to this goal in the 96th minute.
🎥 Watch Rodrigo Muniz score off a corner kick!
The Premier League doesn’t do shootouts in regular games, or we’d have seen more drama!
🧠 Skills: Penalty Kick Game Plan 🎯
Just because the EPL skips shootouts doesn’t mean you’ll never face one. In fact, whether you’re playing in your backyard or a real game, you probably will.
And you’ll want to be ready!
The best way to handle the pressure is to have a plan. This video breaks down a few you can practice.
🎥 Hit play and get ready to try each!
Choose your favorite, practice with your grown-up… and when it’s your turn, you’ll be ready!
You’ve got your penalty kick plan locked in. Now let’s kick over to the brain game.
❓ Stumpers: EPL’s Best Ever ⚽
You nailed it yesterday: the most points an EPL team can earn is 114 if they win all 38 games.
But how close have teams actually gotten?
Let’s see if you can keep acing these math problems.
🤔 Need a hint? It was Manchester City in the 2017 to 2018 season. Their record was 32 wins, 4 ties, and 2 losses. (Remember: wins are worth 3 points, ties 1, losses 0.)
😂 Silliness: The Olympics of Weird and Wonderful 🏅
Ever heard of The World Games?
Every four years, thousands of athletes gather to compete in sports that don’t usually make the Olympic spotlight.
Well, the Games are about to finish in China. And the sports? Oh, they’re amazing.
Here are just a few examples:
Canoe Polo: water polo… but you’re in kayaks!
Dragon Boat: teams paddle in perfect sync while a drummer keeps the beat.
Fistball: volleyball’s bouncy cousin… you’re allowed one bounce before the next hit.
Floorball: imagine hockey, but indoors with a Wiffle ball.
Freediving & Finswimming: underwater human torpedoes diving on a single breath or racing with a giant fin.
Korfball: like basketball, but co-ed; no dribbling, and the basket has no backboard.
Parkour: sprinting, flipping, wall-jumping obstacle madness.
Powerboating (MotoSurf): stand-up jet boards zooming across the water.
Tug of War: yes, the same one from recess… only with elite international teams pulling like their lives depend on it.
Ultimate: long-bomb Frisbee throws and diving catches… kind of like flag football.
Honestly, we had so much trouble picking just one to show you.
But we went with Parkour. Why? Because when we watched the highlight, it looked exactly like what Smallballers do around the house every day.
🎥 Hit play… and then maybe ask your grown-up before you try this at home.
When you finish vaulting over the couch and racing down the hall...
💬 Tell us in the comments if you want to see any of these other wild sports in a future Smallball! Or ask a grown-up to help you check out this YouTube page and see for yourself!
That’s a wrap for our Sunday special! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
