Kickoff, playoff, penalty… and one surprise waiting at the end.
Let’s get to three things you need to know today! ⬇️
1️⃣ Sayin Takes the Stage 🏈
The college football season kicks off this weekend.
But the real sizzle is brewing for next weekend (August 30), when #1 Texas squares off against #2 Ohio State in a giant rematch everyone’s talking about.
The latest headline? The Buckeyes officially named Julian Sayin as starting quarterback. He used to be one of the best high school players, and he started at Alabama before switching to Ohio State.
🔍 Experts say he was one of the most polished passers in his recruiting class. Think: quick release and great accuracy. He spots open teammates quickly and can throw on the run, making him likely to succeed right away in college.
This isn’t just any opener. Last season, Ohio State knocked off Texas in the semifinals on their way to the national championship.
For Sayin, it’s his first start, and a huge chance to prove he belongs.
Stay tuned the next few days, because we’re about to cover the A to Z of this college football season. 🏈🔥
2️⃣ Leader of the Pack ⛳
While we’re in a looking-ahead mood, let’s talk about this weekend’s Tour Championship!
We know it’s the final tournament in golf’s playoffs.
We know it’s down to 30 players.
And we know Scottie Scheffler is chasing back-to-back trophies.
But is it as simple as just finishing with the best score against par?
Well… yes. It is now!
Before this year, players didn’t all start even. If you’d done really well all season, you began with a head start. Think of it like Mario Kart: when you’ve won the most races, you get to start the next one at the front of the pack. 🚦🏎️
But this year, it’s just regular golf: four rounds, lowest score is the FedEx Cup champ.
The first round starts on Thursday!
3️⃣ Practiced Your Penalty Kicks Yet? ⚽
On Sunday, we broke down some smart ways to nail a penalty kick (fans call it a PK).
And while the Premier League doesn’t use shootouts after tie matches, they do use penalties during the game.
Yesterday’s Leeds vs. Everton clash gave us the perfect example. With the score tied late, the referee awarded Leeds a PK after a handball call.
🎥 Hit play on this drama!
Who stepped up? Lukas Nmecha. He’d just entered the game. In front of a roaring crowd, he kept his cool and buried it.
It was his very first Premier League goal, and it turned out to be the match-winner. One kick, one chance, and the whole game can change.
So next time you’re practicing in the backyard, remember: calm, focused, and fearless.
When we covered the World Games, you had thoughts.
