From a WNBA showdown with a missing star… to NBA trades turning the league upside down… to Coco’s Wimbledon wobble…
We’ve got your 3 things, Smallballers!
But first? We’re going deep into the trick-shot world of five friends, one YouTube channel, and a whole bunch of world records.
But before we dive in… shoutout to Rowan, who sent us a picture of his Aaron Judge baseball card after seeing the Roger Maris card in yesterday’s post.
🤔 Did you know… Judge actually broke Maris’ record for most home runs by a Yankee in a single season? Maris hit 61 in 1961, and Judge smashed 62 in 2022. Boom! 💥
Now, let’s roll.
Deep Dive: From Backyard Bets to World Records! 🧔🏻♂️👬🟣🦒
We watched the Savannah Bananas play Banana Ball earlier this week… full of trick plays, goofy rules, and big-time fun. But they’re not the only ones bringing epic joy to sports!
If you’ve been reading our Sunday editions, you’ve seen a group of friends called Dude Perfect play All Sports Golf… where each shot has to be taken with a different piece of sports gear.
But how did these guys even meet?
How’d they get so popular?
And how do they come up with so many wild, wonderful video ideas?
Today, we’re going deep on the Dudes.
🤙 Team Dude Perfect
🎬 Betcha Can’t Hit That!
Every story has a first chapter. For Dude Perfect, it was just five friends and a friendly challenge.
In 2009, when they were roommates at Texas A&M University, they started goofing around with a basketball, a backyard hoop, and a friendly wager: miss a shot, buy lunch.
🎥 Those trick shots turned into this first video called “Backyard Edition.”
They uploaded the video to YouTube mostly just to impress friends, but it blew up, gaining hundreds of thousands of views in a week.
🏟️ The Shot Heard Round the World
Dude Perfect's big break came at Kyle Field, Texas A&M’s massive football stadium.
The guys decided to set a seemingly impossible record: the World’s Longest Basketball Shot. Tyler climbed to the third deck of the stadium… more than 200 feet above the hoop. His friends, far below, waited nervously with cameras rolling.
The wind swirled. Tyler squinted, took a deep breath, and launched the ball. For almost four seconds, it dropped through the sky.
🎥 And then… SWISH. Everyone went wild!
When that shot went in, their lives changed forever. It was featured on countless TV shows. Overnight, Dude Perfect went from fun local celebrities to international YouTube legends.
🏅 Record-Breaking Machines
Sure, Dude Perfect makes us laugh with goofy battles and hilarious fails. But they’re also obsessed with pushing the limits of what's possible.
There’s an organization called Guinness World Records… it’s like the official scorekeeper for the craziest, coolest, most unbelievable things people do all over the world.
So when someone says they broke a world record? Guinness is the crew that makes it official. ✅
The Dudes currently have over 20 Guinness World Records, including:
⛳ Most golf putts made in one minute (35 by Garrett!)
🏈 Most footballs snapped in one minute (61 by Coby and Cory!)
🍋 Most lemons/limes cut in half in 30 seconds (66 by Tyler!)
Other record holders better watch out... the Dudes just built an epic new space to help them keep leveling up.
🏢 The World’s Greatest Office
When you first step inside Dude Perfect’s new headquarters in Frisco, Texas, you're greeted by a lobby filled with their wildest creations… everything from signature props to signed jerseys from famous athletes who’ve visited.
Head deeper, and you'll find:
🏀 Multiple full-sized courts, adjustable hoops, and trick-shot setups galore.
🏈 Professional-quality fields where anything can (and usually does) happen.
⛳ A high-tech putting green and golf simulator room that would make the world’s best golfers jealous.
It’s not just an office… it's the ultimate sports fantasyland, and a real-life playground for five guys who turned their wildest dreams into reality.
Before we wrap… we’ve got one more trick up our sleeve. The Savannah Bananas would be proud. 🍌
🎥 Hit play!
Now, onto the 3 things!
1️⃣ Commissioner’s Cup Crowned! 🏆
Your predictions were perfectly split, 50/50, between the Minnesota Lynx and Indiana Fever.
But unfortunately for the Fever-backers, Caitlin Clark wasn’t able to play because of her injury. Bummer!!!
🎥 Let's see if the Fever were able to overcome a BIG hole in their lineup:
So… what was the story behind the score?
Experts expected the Lynx to win by 10… but the Fever won by 15. A 25-point difference!
Minnesota didn’t score in the final 8 minutes of the first half… while Indiana scored 18 points!
Natasha Howard was named Cup MVP with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 assists. A cool twist? She won the WNBA Finals with the Lynx in 2017!
The Commissioner's Cup is settled, but the action in the W is still in full swing. Next stop: the July 19 All-Star Game in Indianapolis.
2️⃣ All‑Star Shuffle Across the NBA 🧳
While the W’s All‑Star Game is just ahead, many NBA All Stars are on the move as the offseason continues to be electric.
We already talked about Kevin Durant’s trade to the Houston Rockets and the Boston Celtics’ plan to rebuild… but those were just the opening moves.
Here are the other moves reshaping the league:
🃏 Denver Loads Up
The Nuggets pulled off two trades… sending Michael Porter Jr. and a future draft pick to the Brooklyn Nets, plus Dario Šarić, who barely played last year, to the Sacramento Kings. In return, they got Cam Johnson, who’s a great defender and three-point shooter, and Jonas Valančiūnas, a center who is likely to be The Joker’s primary backup.
Looks like they’re stacking depth for another playoff run.
🦌 Milwaukee’s Big Move
The Bucks shocked everyone by letting go of star Damian Lillard and instead signing former Pacers big man Myles Turner. With Lillard recovering from an Achilles injury, Milwaukee chose to strengthen its chances to compete now while Giannis is in his prime.
It’s a shift from sharpshooting to rim protection… and a defensive upgrade.
🎯 Orlando’s Shooting Splash
The Magic landed Desmond Bane in a trade from the Memphis Grizzlies to help fix their long-range shooting struggles. Orlando ranked dead last in 3-pointers made last season.
It’s a bold swing as they try to take the next leap in the East.
🌀 Pelicans–Wizards Riddle
This one’s got fans and experts equally puzzled. The New Orleans Pelicans traded away a few veteran players to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Jordan Poole and Saddiq Bey. On paper, New Orleans gets younger and more unpredictable… but at the cost of proven leadership and playoff experience.
Meanwhile, the Wizards keep adding older players, even though they’re not winning much right now.
🔮 Big Moves Still Coming?
Big names are still hanging in the balance.
There’s been rumors that Giannis could request a trade from the Bucks. But will the moves they just made convince him to stay?
The New York Knicks fired their coach… even after making the Eastern Conference Finals. Who’s going to coach them next year?
The next move could come at any moment… and change everything again.
3️⃣ Coco’s Tough Transition 🎾
A few weeks ago, Coco Gauff was hoisting the trophy at the French Open.
Now? She’s heading home after the first round at Wimbledon.
Unranked Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine stunned the second-ranked Gauff… the biggest upset of the tournament so far.
The switch from clay to grass is brutal… and only one woman has managed to win both the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year over the past decade: Serena Williams in 2015.
📉 A few key facts:
Coco had 29 unforced errors in the match (That means mistakes on shots she usually makes… no one forced them, they just went wrong.)
That included nine double faults (That’s when a player misses both tries to get a serve in, giving the other player an easy point.)
Wimbledon remains the only Major where she’s never reached the semifinals
For Gauff, it’s a disappointing loss… and a reminder of how even the brightest stars can slip on grass.
Title games. Total chaos. Trick shots. One thing’s for sure… sports never stop surprising us.
Keep shooting, and we’ll see you tomorrow!
