Three Stories, One Wild Sunday 📖
If you like close finishes, huge celebrations, and watching history… you came to the right place.
Happy Monday, Smallballers! Here are three things you need to know. 👀
1️⃣ Did Tommy Get His Trophy? 🏆
Tommy Fleetwood and Patrick Cantlay started yesterday’s final round tied at −16.
Scottie Scheffler was four shots behind.
So what happened?
🎥 You’ll have to watch for yourself!
There you go! That was Tommy Fleetwood’s very first win in golf’s top league, called the PGA Tour.
🧠 Think of the PGA Tour like golf’s version of the NBA or NFL. It’s the league where the very best players face off in tournaments throughout the year.
Fleetwood has been chasing this win for a while. Before yesterday, he had 30 top-5 finishes. That’s more than any golfer in 100 years without an actual win.
Over and over, he was so close. And finally? He did it!
The lesson? Never. Give. Up.
Next up? A special tournament called the Ryder Cup.
It’s a USA vs. Europe showdown. Golf turns into a team sport, with every match adding up to decide who takes home the trophy.
This year, it takes place at the end of September in New York. And yes… Tommy Fleetwood will be right in the middle of it for Team Europe!
2️⃣ USA vs. the World 🌍
The Ryder Cup is USA vs. Europe. But yesterday in the Little League World Series (LLWS) final, it was USA vs. the World.
Chinese Taipei, to be exact.
And you know Smallball loves to build suspense.
But unfortunately, this one wasn’t close.
Chinese Taipei’s pitcher, Lin Chin-Tse (say it with us: Leen Cheen Tsa), was untouchable. None of the first 13 batters got on base.
Then, as a hitter, he smashed a triple that scored three runs to blow the game wide open.
From there, Chinese Taipei never let go. Out after out, run after run, the lead stretched all the way to 7–0.
🎥 Here’s the final out… and the celebration that followed.
After six straight years of American champions, the World is back on top for the first time since Japan in 2017.
For Chinese Taipei, it’s championship number 18. They’ve won more than anyone else in LLWS history… except, the United States!
At least America still holds the all-time record.
3️⃣ 31 Games, 2 Record Chases ⚾
And speaking of history…
Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh had a huge day yesterday.
The Mariners beat the A’s 11–4. And Raleigh stole the show. He crushed not one but two home runs.
🎥 Watch bombs 48 and 49 on the season.
That’s not just a hot streak. That’s history.
Raleigh now holds the record for most home runs in one season by a catcher. Nobody in MLB history has done what he’s doing.
And here’s the best part: there are still 31 games left.
So buckle up. Every at-bat is a chance to add to the record.
Let’s see how far the guy they call the “Big Dumper” can go.
Wait, 31 games left… how are the Rockies doing?
Yeah, they’re still the worst team in baseball. Yesterday, it became official: the Rockies can’t make the playoffs this year.
The only thing left to watch is whether they’ll make the bad kind of history.
They need at least five wins in those 31 games to avoid the record for most losses in modern MLB history.
🎤 Prediction time!
What a Sunday! A golfer who never gave up, a Little League team that couldn’t be stopped, and a catcher who can’t stop hitting bombs. 💥
We can’t wait to see what’s next. 🎾🗽
