It’s Friday, and you know what that means! We’ve got highlights from this week and tips on what to watch this weekend.
We’re going in alphabetical order: ⚾️, 🏀, and 🏈.
First up…
MLB Playoffs ⚾️
We’re in the quarterfinals (it’s called the Divisional round). Eight teams, four series, and the first team to win three games advances.
The first team to move on?
🎥 Hit play and find out!
After an epic comeback by the Yankees in Game 3, the Blue Jays shut the door in Game 4.
🎥 But we’ve still got to show you this Aaron Judge bomb from Game 3.
Who will the Blue Jays face in the American League Championship Series (ALCS)?
We won’t know until tonight. That’s because the Tigers and Mariners are tied 2–2 and going to Game 5.
Detroit’s ace Tarik Skubal is pitching. Seattle and home run king Cal Raleigh get to play at home. Still, experts say the Tigers have a 55% chance to win.
We’ve got a similar situation on the National League side of the bracket.
Already moving on?
That’s the… wait. No! What are we doing?
🎥 Watch and see for yourself!
Hooray Dodgers! But poor Phillies… especially to lose on an error in extra innings.
That means Brewers–Cubs is heading to Game 5 on Saturday. Experts say there’s a 60% chance the Brewers get it done at home.
By the time we hit post on Tuesday, we’ll not only know the final four teams. We’ll know who’s got the early lead in each semifinal series!
Before then, there’s a pretty good chance we crown a champion in the…
WNBA Playoffs 🏀
Last we checked, the Las Vegas Aces and A’ja Wilson were up 2–0.
🎥 Watch what happened at the end of Game 3!
Make that 3–0.
A’ja had the game-winning shot. And 34 points and 14 rebounds. Oh, and she’s now the first player in WNBA history with back-to-back games of 25+ points and 10+ rebounds in the Finals.
The Aces have a chance to finish the series in Game 4 tonight. If the Mercury win, Game 5 will be Sunday.
Sandwiched in between on Saturday, we’ve got…
College Football Week 7 🎓🏈
Only 15 out of 136 teams are still undefeated.
And we get to watch two of them play this weekend!
That’s #3 Oregon hosting #7 Indiana in a massive Big Ten Conference game.
And there are two other ranked matchups:
#1 Ohio State (undefeated) at #17 Illinois
#8 Alabama at #14 Missouri (undefeated)
The game I’m most excited about isn’t a ranked matchup. But it does have one undefeated team!
That’s #6 Oklahoma vs. unranked Texas. They call this game the Red River Rivalry… and this map should tell you why!
The coolest part of this game?
It’s played in Dallas. A neutral site halfway between both schools. So the stadium’s filled with a mix of burnt orange and crimson.
The big story to watch?
Oklahoma QB John Mateer injured his hand a few weeks ago. He missed the Sooners’ last game, but it looks like he’s going to try to play.
All I have to say: it’s [whatever time you’re reading this], and OU still sucks.
Whew, that’s about as fired up as Smallball gets.
We better move on to…
NFL Week 6 👔🏈
Speaking of rivalry games…
Thursday Night Football was Eagles at Giants. Philadelphia vs. New York. NFC East showdown.
The last few years, the Eagles have soared while the Giants have been one of the worst teams in the NFL.
So you expect a blowout, right?
Well, you’re right.
🎥 But watch these highlights and see if there’s still a big surprise.
Ouch! That…
And that’s two losses in a row for the Eagles. Between this and the Phillies loss, not a great night in Philadelphia.
Also not great? The rest of the matchups this week!
There are only two games where both teams have a winning record:
Seahawks (3–2) at Jaguars (4–1)
49ers (4–1) at Buccaneers (4–1)
But don’t worry! We’ll keep an eye on all the games and find any worth watching on Tuesday!
Is that enough sports magic for you?
Don’t forget: the NBA season starts on October 21. So if you’ve got questions you want answered… leave a comment! 💬
We can’t wait to read them.
And we can’t wait for this weekend! Have a great one!
Smallball is just for fun.
