All eight spots are locked. Today’s games will just change the order of the teams. And then? Round 1 starts Sunday.
Today, we’re looking ahead to another playoff chase… Major League Baseball (MLB).
Just a few weeks left in the regular season. Ready for three things to know?
1️⃣ Who’s in First Place? 🥇
That was Sam’s question yesterday! Great idea to start at the top. 🔝
Answer: the Milwaukee Brewers.
They’ve been so good this year that they’ve won 10 games in a row two different times!

But wait… it’s not that simple.
Baseball has 30 teams. First, they split into two groups called leagues: the American League and the National League.
Then each league gets chopped into three mini-groups called divisions: East, Central, and West.
That makes six divisions total… and the winner of each one is guaranteed a playoff spot.
Here are current division leaders (and their win–loss records):
AL East: Toronto Blue Jays (83–62) 💙
AL Central: Detroit Tigers (84–62) 🐯
AL West: Houston Astros (79–67) ⭐
NL East: Philadelphia Phillies (86–60) 🔔
NL Central: Milwaukee Brewers (89–58) 🍻
NL West: Los Angeles Dodgers (82–64) 🎬
So that’s actually six different first-place teams.

Did you figure it out? Then you’re definitely ready to hear that these six teams aren’t the only ones headed to the playoffs.
Each league also adds three wild-card teams.
No, we’re not playing Uno! These are the teams that didn’t win their division but still had the next-best records.
Six playoff spots per league. Twelve teams in all.
And in the end? Only one World Series champ. 🏆🔥
2️⃣ Are the Rockies Still in Last Place? 🏔️

Short answer: yep. 😬
The Rockies have won 40 games and lost 106.
🧠 More math! How many more wins do the Brewers have than the Rockies?
Second-worst team so far? The Chicago White Sox, at 56–90.
With only 16 games left, the Rockies are definitely going to finish with the most losses this season.
But will they finish with the most losses ever?
Probably not. But it could be close. Last year, the White Sox lost 121 games.
So if the Rockies can win two of their remaining games, at least they’ll avoid setting the worst-ever record for most losses.
