We focused on football the last few days… so let’s zoom out and see what else is happening in sports!
Today’s spotlight? The WNBA.
It’s perfect timing… because the regular season ends tomorrow. And the playoffs tip off on Sunday.
Eight teams make the playoffs, out of 13 in the league. And entering last night’s games, seven of those spots were already locked up.
Those seven?
The Minnesota Lynx (the #1 seed, powered by Napheesa Collier and looking like they could make it back to the WNBA Finals), Atlanta Dream, Las Vegas Aces, Phoenix Mercury, New York Liberty (the defending champs!), Golden State Valkyries (making the playoffs in their first-ever season), and Indiana Fever (even though Caitlin is hurt and can’t play again this season). 😢
One ticket left. Two teams really close in the standings: the Seattle Storm and Los Angeles Sparks.
For the Storm, it was simple: win and get in.
The Sparks? They needed to win and have Seattle lose.
So… did the Storm seal the deal?
🎥 Hit play and find out!
Clutch basket by Erica Wheeler.
Storm 74, Valkyries 73 (that last basket actually came after the clock hit zero, so it didn’t count).
Playoff spot secured.
And good thing… because LA won, too. Now Thursday’s games won’t change who’s in, but they might change the order (called the seeds).
Then all eyes shift to Sunday. 👀
Playoff basketball is ready to roll.
Playoff baseball is almost here. Just over two weeks left in the MLB regular season. ⚾
