A global soccer showdown… a coaching shake-up in New York… and a baseball ending so wild, you’ll have to see it to believe it.
Ready for the stories you need to know today? Let’s go!
1️⃣ A New Tournament, a New Trophy 🌍⚽
Earlier this week, we watched Mexico defeat Team USA to win the Gold Cup.
Right now, Euro 2025 is getting close to the knockout rounds (that’s the final part of the tournament where teams get eliminated if they lose).
But there’s another international soccer tournament happening this week… and this one’s a little different.
Instead of national teams like the US or England, this one features the best pro soccer clubs from around the world. It’s called the FIFA Club World Cup, and it’s bigger than ever.
🏆 What Is the Club World Cup?
Think of it like the World Cup, but for clubs instead of countries.
Teams make it in by playing really well in their regional leagues, like the Champions League in Europe or the Copa Libertadores in South America.
This year, the tournament expanded from 7 teams to 32 teams.
It’s a global battle to crown the best club team on Earth… and we’re down to the semifinals.
🏁 About Last Night (Semi #1)…
Chelsea (England) took down Fluminense (Brazil) 2–0 behind two goals from João Pedro… who used to play for Fluminense!
No big celebrations out of respect for his old teammates… but his performance made the difference.
🎥 See for yourself!
With the win, Chelsea advances to Sunday’s championship game.
🔮 Tonight: Real Madrid vs. PSG (Semi #2)
The second semifinal kicks off tonight… and it’s loaded with drama.
Kylian Mbappé, now at Real Madrid (Spain), faces his former team: Paris Saint-Germain (France).
And with heat over 90°F and lots of humidity in New Jersey, the conditions could be wild.
The winner gets Chelsea in the final. Get your popcorn ready. 🍿
2️⃣ A New Coach in New York 🗽🏀
The Knicks had their best season in a really long time, reaching the Eastern Conference Finals.
But even that wasn’t enough.
They fired their coach, Tom Thibodeau, and are hoping a new coach can lead them to a championship.
Enter: Mike Brown.
🚀 Meet the Coach Who Helped LeBron Take Off
Here are a few highlights from his 25+ year coaching career:
Two-time NBA Coach of the Year
Four-time NBA champ as an assistant with the Spurs and Warriors
LeBron’s first coach with the Cavs
Led the Kings to the playoffs for the first time in 16 years
Brown has been around greatness. Now, he’s expected to bring it to Madison Square Garden.
Just a little over three months until the NBA regular season begins… and we can’t wait!
3️⃣ How About That Finish in San Francisco?!?! 🦄⚾
Two playoff hopefuls. Ninth inning. One unforgettable ending.
The Philadelphia Phillies led 3–1 heading into the bottom of the ninth against the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. Then… chaos.
🎥 Watch what happened next!
Walk-off, inside-the-park, three-run homer… and a 4–3 Giants win.
That’s an ending you almost never see… but just how rare is it? 📊
A walk-off home run happens in about 2% of MLB games, or 1 out of every 50.
But an inside-the-park walk-off? That’s a unicorn. This was the first one in nine years. And there have just been a handful in the last 50+ years.
Safe bet this one makes the best plays of July when we check back in a few weeks! 🔥
Wild wins. Big names. Sports history in the making.
Catch your breath, grab a snack… we’ll be back tomorrow with more!
More polls please!
