A Legendary Sunday ✨
If you like stories that are about more than the scoreboard, yesterday was your kind of day.
Here are three things to know as you start your week!
1️⃣ Rivalry Reloaded 🔄
French Open earlier this year: Carlos Alcaraz over Jannik Sinner.
Wimbledon a few weeks ago: Sinner over Alcaraz.
At the US Open yesterday… it was the third-straight Grand Slam final between the two best players in the world. And Alcaraz is back on top.
The final score: 6–2, 3–6, 6–1, 6–4.
Remember what was on the line:
Alcaraz hasn’t lost a set all tournament… can he keep the streak going? ❌
He’s also trying to grab the #1 ranking in the world from Sinner. ✅
Sinner is trying to tie Alcaraz with five career Grand Slam wins. ❌
Feels like we’re not done watching these two battle it out on the court.
“I’m seeing you more than my family,” Alcaraz joked with Sinner during the trophy ceremony. 😂
2️⃣ Opening Acts 🎬
The US Open is over, but the NFL is just getting started. We saw the Eagles and Chargers get Week 1 rolling.
Here’s who else joined the 1–0 club yesterday!
The Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, and Los Angeles Rams made it three out of four wins for the NFC West. Only the Seattle Seahawks lost (to the 49ers).
The Jacksonville Jaguars looked sharp against Carolina, and the Indianapolis Colts dominated Miami.
The Las Vegas Raiders got off on the right foot too, knocking off the Patriots, and the Denver Broncos ground out a tough victory over the Titans.
The Buccaneers edged the Falcons. The Washington Commanders took care of the Giants. And the Green Bay Packers flexed in a blowout win over Detroit.
The games of the day?
🎥 Watch the Pittsburgh Steelers hold on in this thriller against the Jets. (Start watching at 10:11 if it doesn’t zoom there automatically.)
🎥 And check out this showdown between Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen. (Start at 5:14.)
Yep, that was the Ravens almost starting the season 1–0 against the team who knocked them out of the playoffs last year.
Their offense was on fire early. And we noticed something unusual…
Here’s a screenshot after Lamar’s rushing touchdown put the Ravens up 17–7.
It’s kind of blurry, but look what’s there when you zoom in!
And then the Bills come back to actually go 1–0? Look what plays they were using!
Down by 15 points in the fourth quarter, and still won. The Bills hadn’t done that since 1967.
3️⃣ 60K Club ⭐
Something historic happened yesterday in Los Angeles, too!
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford crossed one of football’s biggest milestones: 60,000 career passing yards.
Yep, only nine other QBs in NFL history have ever hit that number.
Take a look at how many seasons it took each QB to reach 60,000 yards. Count how many names you recognize!
And Stafford can keep moving up the list. The only other QB in the top 10 that’s still playing? Aaron Rodgers. We just watched him beat the Jets!
Think about this: Stafford has thrown for 34 miles of passing yards!
🧠 How far is it from your house to school? Now imagine making that trip over and over… until you’ve gone 34 miles!
The Rams got a win. Stafford got a milestone. And NFL history got a brand-new member of the 60K Club. 🎉
We got drama, comebacks, and history all in one day… and tomorrow, you better believe there’ll be more stories to talk about.
Monday Night Football tonight? Vikings at Bears.
Both Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy and Bears QB Caleb Williams were first-round picks in 2024. McCarthy missed the whole season with an injury. Williams played, but he really struggled.
Which young QB makes a big jump tonight?
Smallball is just for fun.
